  • Mario Mlakar Identity The identity for Mario Mlakar, a young croatian filmmaker.

The repetitive form of the letter M found in both his name and surname is the main element used.

The saturated coloration and round/jagged form finishes emphasize his personality and professional identity.

  • Fine Young Boys When Vanja Cuculić's poster for Gavella's play Fine mrtve djevojke (Fine Dead Girls) was censored and removed for being offensive to the Christian church, the creative social circles responded with a unique uproar and wave of support.

One of the main initiatives was a set of posters that featured other authors' visions based on the the main poster and the following media mess. This is my take.

  • Posters to Cry for Posteri za plakat (Posters to Cry For) is our first joined exhibition.

It was conceived after The Vip Club and the girls from Art Clubbing asked us to cook up something cool to start off their exhibition & clubbing program for 2012/13.

We decided to showcase our poster work and design the accompanying poster to “house” iconic locations in Zagreb where you expect to see posters or that have some connection to the posters’ theme.

The exhibition title and invitation copy is written in a self-ironic tone that corresponds with the way we look at our own inexperience and youth and it’s influence on our work.

After choosing the posters to be exhibited, we (somewhat minimalistically) designed the “stands” and defined the lighting for the opening event. This is the result.

  • HZZO / CIHI This proposal was created as an entry for the Croatian Insitute for Health Insurance's visual identity public competition.

The proposal is developed on the basis of four primary associational concepts: safety, health, the Croatian checkers and technology (systems). These concepts were derived through analyses of the nature of the institution, i.e. the services and mission of the CIHI, the culture and practices within the local market, and popular symbols that allude to the values representative of the CIHI.

Cubes have been identified as the geometrical form through which the most clear visual representation of the selected concepts can be created. Health, as central to the CIHI activities, is a leading element within the proposed solution for a new visual identity.

The concept of health is represented visually through a negative space defined by a set of rampart-like red cubes that form a cross, the commonly recognized symbol for health. The cubes are also an association to the well-known Croatian checkers, which is an essential national symbol. Furthermore, they represent a balanced and effective system of protection through their resemblance to the ground plans of a typical middle-age fortress.

The cube shapes are a direct association to technological systems for transferring information, technological advancement being a primary ambition of the CIHI.

Lastly, the cubes that construct the proposed logo are interpreted as separate elements, which represent the institutions, individuals and the rest of the constituents of the HZZO as an organization.

  • Toochepin Rock Festival The Toochepin Rock Festival had its first incarnation this summer.

We were asked to create a simple logotype and festival poster.

We decided to use negative space and simple illustration to bring the festival locations' atmosphere to life and created a special set of posters printed in phosphorescent ink that we're put up in locations that had intervals of very strong light that could fill them and let them glow afterwards.

  • Canvas Community Canvas community is an online creative community centering around a single canvas. Designers, illustrators, photographers, typographers and other artists are invited by Arjowiggins to take up a part of the canvas and define themselves creatively on its “surface”. They can create new self-promotional work or use old, unused artwork. Using old work is encouraged in the spirit of sustainability that the project promotes.

The work the creatives use represents them and only by clicking through it can you reach their personal profiles with additional work and information. Here you can browse through and share their work, as well as contact them for any additional information. The project canvas is an irregular grid of triangles symbolizing a crumpled piece of paper. In the spirit of sustainability we have decided to once more so that the creases become gridlines that define the modules creatives can chose.

Once the canvas is filled the project goes into its final phase - a series of events dedicated to promoting and connecting the Arjowiggins Canvas Community. This includes exhibitions, workshops and performances promoted with posters, t-shirts, mugs, flyers etc.

In addition, a catalog of all the artwork is designed and printed on Arjowiggins creative papers to further link the creativity on the canvas with Arjowiggins and to better promote the project. This functions as both the project catalog and an Arjowiggins paper catalog.

  • Widd Our process of thought started with the five basic needs of every human being: water,
food, health, a home, and energy.
As we believe industrial design can fulfill these needs, and the perfect way to do it is
through the development of recycling and reusable energy technologies.
We chose the promotion of this idea as our basic concept.
To further enhance the readability of our basic message, we chose a strong
statement: "don't throw anything away, there is no away".
Thus, solving the content, we moved on to the illustration.
We found that the only way the illustration could follow the meaning of the copy, is if
the copy was indeed made out of old, thrown away items. For each of the five basic
human needs, we chose a few corresponding items that we collected from our
basements, attics and garbage disposal units.
As the copy is read, the illustration flows with its meaning. We accomplished this by
dividing it into three parts, beginning with the collection of resources, following with
the transportation of resources, and ending with the processing of resources into the
    fulfillment of the aforementioned needs.
We photographed the lettering and put it all together in photoshop. The final product
of our two weeks worth of work is the attached poster. We hope you have as much
fun viewing it as we had in making it.

  • Gavella Posters Made for one of Croatia's most famous theaters, Gavella, the poster for The Midsummer Night's Eve uses a magical silhouette of Oberon that grows into the atmosphere-revealing tree and the seminal figure of
    the actor-turned donkey.

The second of the Gavella Theater poster illustrations, the Blizzard is a play about the unlikely love that culminates in a blizzard. The illustration uses the central kiss to illustrate the feel of the story and it's unfortunate, cold ending. In addition, the face of the woman is made out of the names of the play, the actors and the director.

The last of the Gavella Theater poster illustrations, the Ballads of Petrica Kerempuh is a play about centuries of violence as told through the lyrics of a local folk hero and poet. The illustration uses a crossword puzzle that is made out of words like death, slaughter, treatury, killing, justice, scum... The crossword's answer actually gives away the name of the play.
